BOAT DEPARTURES

Launch Twice Daily

Our boats depart twice daily for the reef. Each dive trip consists of two different dive sites, or the same site if you wish. We leave in the mornings at 9:00 am and in the afternoons at 1:00 pm, and you should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before departure. If you wish to try an exciting night dive, these depart approximately 30 minutes before sunset (yes, even in the Keys that time varies with the seasons).
If there is a special kind of trip that you would like us to run, all you need to do is ask. The friendly staff at Ocean Quest Dive Center will be happy to work with you. We’ll arrange a trip tailor-made just for you, whether it’s regular reef diving, snorkeling, wreck diving, night diving.

Pre Diving Nutrition

By: Ginger Patterson, Ph.D., RD

As with any athletic endeavor, the nutritional status of the body will affect performance.  Diving on an empty stomach is not wise, just as it would not be wise to run a race with no fuel.  However, an overly full stomach could lead to abdominal distress and possibly even vomiting.  An hour or two before a dive, consumption of some protein and some complex carbohydrate would be ideal.  Fat would not be a good idea because it takes a long time to leave the stomach and get digested.  Some suggestions would be a cereal with fat free milk, or whole grain bread with an ounce of turkey breast, or yogurt and fruit, or an egg and toast.  Poor choices would be bacon or sausage, fast food breakfast sandwiches, butter and pancake syrup, or anything fried.  After a few dives, a person will figure out what works best for them.  Bodies are different, and what makes one person feel great may be upsetting to someone else.  Quantity will be the same scenario; what is too much to one person may be just right for someone else.  You want the mix and quantity that makes you feel your best!
